10 on 10 in december
this december, i’m feeling a little uninspired personally. we’re heavily into our daily routine and the monotony of school life with kids is leaving me bored.
there’s always something fun to photograph amongst the chaos of my daily life, but with homework and afterschool activities, i’m finding us tied to our house a lot more than usual. whenever i’m tied to the house, i start feeling stifled!
the last few years, by december, we’ve been freezing and digging ourselves out of the heavy white snow drifts by the door. i’m wondering if this gorgeous weather has me feeling too much of the same thing isn’t good for my soul.
our little beach town of long beach, ny is typically an eerie and empty place in december. winter was always my favorite time of year here. the streets turn grey with fog and snow, the people huddle up inside with their families, only venturing out to clear the sidewalks and for icy walks on the boardwalks. the snowbirds have headed south for the winter. the summer rentals are quiet again. it’s a locals only kind of place.
this winter is different in the sense that there is definitely no snow to be found, but that just made it sort of nice on my fingers while i took a walk around town to find a little inspiration in the place i know too well.
here’s my 10 on 10 for december.

after an early morning doctor visit, miss a walks to her class a little late. it’s surreal watching her go down the same halls i used to roam as a little kid.

we just got a new grocery store. the whole city was so excited, but i think we’re all still waiting for the kinks to be worked out.

i counted 4 menorah’s up in the city this day. that’s a lot considering how small our city is! it’s nice to be able to show ava that people publicly celebrate hanukkah too!

i remember when marvel used to close in the winter. not that this winter doesn’t call for ice cream outside, but it’s still weird to see it open this time of year.

it’s really interesting to still see so many construction vehicles on our roads 3 years after sandy. it’s wonderful that so many people will be getting home finally, but i won’t miss the trucks.

jacketless babies pushing their strollers around town in december isn’t something we’re used to seeing!

a 9-11 memorial in town that i’ve never noticed before. it’s amazing what you find when you open your eyes.

a few blocks away from me there is this park. i pass it all the time. the sign lists all the things you are not allowed to bring into the park. including drugs. i wonder who put the heart around this list.
i am hoping to make it a point to get outside more and find ways to be inspired while my kids are in school. when i do, i might be putting them up on my instagram @lksquared, so please come follow along!!!

[…] do the 10 on 10. especially with taking on the 365 project, i often found myself uninspired to shoot for myself. not even just my family, but just myself… things that push me personally that weren’t business related. having great friends who encouraged me to take on the 10 on 10 and included me in their blog circle was a highlight of 2015 for me! […] beginning this class, i tried experimenting with street work on my own, and i enjoyed it, but i was flying blind. i’ve been giving myself small things to focus on […]
